What is Rotary all About?
Rotary International is an organization of Rotary clubs (currently 32,176 clubs in 166 countries with a membership of 1.3 million Rotarians).
Rotary International fosters support of Rotary clubs and Rotary districts in promoting the Object of Rotary.
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster:

  • the development of acquaintance as an opportunity of service,
  • high ethical standards in business and professions
  • the application of the ideal of service in each member's personal, business and community life
  • the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace

What are the qualifications to become a Rotarian?

 

•  Each active member shall be an adult of good character and good business and professional reputation,
•  engaged as proprietor, partner, corporate officer, or manager of any recognized business or profession; or
•  hold an important position in any worthy and recognized business or profession or any branch or agency thereof and have executive capacity with discretionary authority; or
•  having retired from any position listed above and have their places of business or residence located in the locality of the club or the surrounding area.

 

Each club shall have a well-balanced membership in which no one business or profession dominates. Active membership in a club is limited to five members from each classification (clubs larger than 50 members may have no more than 10% from one classification). Members who are retired are not included in the number of members in a classification.

 

What are the types of Membership?

There are two types of membership active and honorary.

Active is the regular status for all club members – actively engaged in business or retired.

 

Honorary membership may be given by a club to persons who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals and those persons considered friends of Rotary for their permanent support of Rotary's cause.
The term of the honorary membership is determined by the individual club.

 

How do I sponsor a new member?

 

Invite a prospective members to attend several meetings.
Notify your club membership committee or secretary and proceed according to your club policy

 

Membership in a Rotary club offers a number of benefits, including:

  • effecting change within the community
  • advancing business and professional contacts
  • developing leadership skills
  • gaining an understanding of — and having an impact on — international humanitarian issues

Through Rotary International's service programs, a Rotary club can have a significant effect on the quality of life in its community. Rotary Foundation programs offer opportunities to form international partnerships that help people in need worldwide. Some 1.2  million Rotarians in 30,000 clubs in more than 160 countries make significant contributions to the quality of life at home and around the globe.
